Goa Gajah or The Elephant Cave

After we visited Taman Ayun temple (https://nomadanu.com/2016/09/29/temples-of-bali/) we went to see the famous Goa Gajah aka The Elephant Cave. It’s only 6 km away from Ubud. We drove our motorbike here only to discover that this historical site isn’t as spectacular as some of the temples, but worth for a visit.

If you plan a trip here and have a sarong, bring it with you. If you don’t have one, no worries, it will be provided after you pay the entry ticket. (don’t rush to buy one from the many sellers at the entry gate!)

The Elephant Cave is actually a large rock with an opening and an interconnected small chamber. (T shaped pathway) There are some beautiful carvings on the exterior; part of the original temple walls have collapsed, but the interior of this sacred cave is still intact. It can gets quite smoky from all the offerings…
